This Saturday, on October 27th, I was graced with the honor of sharing my story with so many beautiful and courageous fellow survivors at this year’s Two-Lifestyles Inc. Ladies’ Symposium, Queens on the Move. Thank you so much to all of you for having me!
About The Author
I am a survivor of domestic violence. Like many that suffer at the hands of their abusers, I suffered in silence. Statistics show that one if four women suffer domestic abuse within their lifetime. Domestic abuse can happen to anyone, regardless of gender, income, age, and religious background. As a survivor, I wish to assist in breaking the silence that shrouds this reoccurring nightmare that so many individuals face on a daily basis. I know first hand the sheer hopelessness that one feels, and the deep despair that engulfs your very being. I know the guilt, and shame that is bestowed on you. I know what it is like to watch yourself die spiritually, whilst you are still alive physically. I know what it is like to live as a mere shell, a shadow of your former self. I know what it is like to look in the mirror, and no longer be able to recognize person gazing back. I know what it is like to be a prisoner in the place you call 'home', the walls your prison cell, and the individual that claims to love you your jailor. I know what it is like to wake up each day, knowing not as to whether this day will be your last. I promise you, there is a light at the end of this dark tunnel, no matter how far said light is from your current range of sight. There is hope, there is tomorrow, and you do have a future. Let us break the shackles of domestic abuse together, and be silent no more.
